Oshawa: the upcoming municipal election is more than just another political cycle.
It’s an opportunity.
We’ve watched as our usual political patterns repeat themselves and long-tenured elected leaders give themselves a steady stream of accolades – while many wonder whether we’re setting the bar too low for our City.
After 8 years serving the people of Oshawa as a City Councillor and 4 of those years as the Finance Chair, I’m running for Mayor to bring change to Oshawa City Council.
I’ve found myself swimming against the political current on more than a few occasions these last eight years – I’m not afraid to have open and honest dialogue with you about the things that aren’t working and the ways we need to listen and do better.
And I’ll bring my experience from both my time on Council and my leadership roles at other organizations, including a financial institution with $500 million in assets under management, a 115-unit non-profit housing provider, and a front-line social service agency, to do the work that’s required to lead that change.
We have some big conversations ahead about the challenges of housing affordability, the very real financial pressures we’re under and infrastructure repair deficits that come with it thanks to limited action and the state of denial of longtime politicians, and the road to serious downtown transformation after decades of tired out, ineffective measures.
But we’re not empty-handed when it comes to solutions: Oshawa and its people are resilient and resourceful, with a proud history of challenging those who say it can’t be done, and that’s why I’m excited to be taking this step with you.
Our campaign is about more than one person. It’s many people working together to create meaningful change in our City, change that is long overdue, knowing that our potential is so much more than the status quo – if we reach for it and fight for it.
